Forged by Purpose
Lake City Heat was founded by Chris Carodine Jr., a former basketball player whose journey took him through the college level. Along the way, Chris developed a deep respect for the game, and for the importance of teamwork. After stepping away from basketball to focus on other areas of his life, he found himself pulled back in. This time through the encouragement of kids and parents who saw his potential as a coach. What began as a single team has grown into a thriving program, and as Chris wraps up his 5 year, Lake City Heat now proudly supports eight basketball teams.
Chris’s mission has always been bigger than basketball. He’s dedicated to keeping kids on the right path—instilling discipline, respect, and a strong work ethic both on and off the court. His passion lies in giving young people a safe, structured environment where they can grow into respectful, responsible leaders.
With a dream to expand Lake City Heat into multiple sports, Chris looked to bring volleyball under the organization’s umbrella. In the spring of 2025, he teamed up with Rachel Vann Nelson and Sergio Gallegos. Rachel brings a strong background in business, administration, sponsorships, and community engagement. She is a passionate entrepreneur with a heart for service and a deep commitment to the youth of Lake City. Sergio brings a coach’s heart, having worked with kids in sports ranging from flag football to volleyball. His focus on teamwork, encouragement, and moral values makes him a vital piece of the mission to uplift and empower young athletes.
Together, this team is building more than a sports program—they’re building a movement to inspire, guide, and support the next generation.
